Thread subject: Sad news - Hornby Island eaglet :(
Name Date Message
Anne UK1 07/15/10 01:17 pm I just picked up the following on the LotL blog. Has anyone been following this nest?

Good Afternoon Osprey Teamâ¦

This is primarily for your information and not the other bloggers.

The Hornby Island BC eaglet died overnight last night quite unexpectedly and extremely fast. Iâve been watching some of the vids from the last 24-36 hours and âPhoenixâ (the bloggers named him/her â nickname Phoe). Anyway, I was struck by how the rapid onset of whatever struck Phoe was so similar to the âLadyâsâ distress a few weeks ago (at least from a web cam perspective anyway).

Here are several links to the goings on, and I thought you might be interested.

Shelley 07/15/10 02:00 pm Anne, was there only one eaglet? Had it already fledged? I just peeked in now (from one of the links you posted) and I see one adult and one large eaglet in the nest and both seem ok. Did she die in the nest (and did they remove the body?). I wonder, do you think they will do an autopsy to determine what happened?

It is sad. :-(
BETH-OH 07/15/10 03:34 pm Update:
A local tree climber has ascended to the eagle's nest and retrieved the body of Phoenix. A necropsy will be done by a qualified vet.

Shelley-I think the nest only had one eaglet that
hatched...
Anne UK1 07/15/10 06:49 pm Yes, single chick due to fledge in the next couple of weeks, according to the Hancock forum.

I'd wondered if the symptoms might have been similar to Marge's, but it sounds as if this was something different. Unfortunately a different outcome too.
