Thread subject: Ospreys on CBS Sunday Morning

Melanie 08/15/10 12:32 pm This morning Ben Stein on vacation in Idaho did a commentary this morning on "what's really important" and focused, appropriately, on a family of osprey who have built their nest on an active railroad bridge. LINK
martyc35 08/15/10 01:43 pm Nice to see Ben worshiping something other than the profit margin. I've seen two good shows on PBS just this weekend, as they are doing fund raising in my area: Nature (the one on hummingbirds), and a special last night on the migration of the broad winged hawks from NH through PA (Hawk Mountain) through TX to Ecuador. The last was very interesting. Both can be purchased on CDs, I think.

Pamela 08/15/10 04:43 pm CBS Sunday Morning and Marty's link to Dawn Chorus are two interesting sources of information not to be missed and they appear each week. Thanks for the posts, Marty and Melanie.
As soon as Ben uttered the word, "Osprey", my head shot up to see the nest on the Rail Bridge and to eventually hear their cry. We've learned a great deal from them over the years, but it's nice to see Stein bring the attention of a magnificent raptor to a new audience.
Wonder if the mother Osprey rolls the eggs less than normal with all the freight trains rumbling below the nest. . .amazing!
