||Thats so upsetting. Reminds me of the time a Magpie killed a female Spotted flycatcher and her newly hatched chicks in a nest in my garden. The male Flycatcher stayed around for the rest of the day making the most plaintive cries you have ever heard. From that day on I have believed that birds do have feelings.

||I grew up in the country and I was surrounded by bird's nests. When one was raided by a cat or a bid like a magpie the parent stayed around making loud cries for the rest of the day as if in mourning.

||This has been discussed in a few places and new things have come to light. It has been suggested that it is love alright but of the phsyical kind. The male may be trying to copulate with the female!

||Many years ago, I was laboring under the delusion that creatures as lowly as ants were collecting their dead and wounded to take them home for burial. Only years later did it dawn on me that they were simply gathering food for the nest. We see what we want to see, indeed, Daisy. LOL.
