Thread subject: Very Exciting Development

Tiger 09/14/10 11:38 am One of the young ospreys hatched at Glaslyn this year has turned up in Switzerland. How odd is that?

Talking about migrating ospreys, my friend Daniel Schmidt from Germany sent me a photograph and an email this afternoon asking about a colour ringed osprey seen at Lake Klingnau in north Switzerland. Later Hans Schmidt of the Swiss Ornithological Institute sent the details - it had been photographed on 26th of August by Martin Trachsel. The exciting thing was that the bird, wearing a white/black 94 colour ring, was one of the youngsters ringed at the North Wales osprey nest this summer. It's the first recovery of a British osprey in Switzerland. There's always something new in the osprey world.

See 94 in Switzerland
Celeste 09/14/10 11:52 am That is so interesting and odd at the same time!...definitely so much to learn!

Hawk Migration is off to a great start at the Eastern end of the Robert Moses State Park adjacent to the Fire Island National Seashore. I received an e mail stating that because of a good north wind on September 10th, the record for migrating osprey was broken. A statistical record has not been started yet, however.
DaisyG 09/14/10 12:21 pm Told you it was windy Tiger :)
Tiger 09/14/10 02:06 pm All becoming very strange. Glaslyn say that 94 was with them that day!
DaisyG 09/14/10 03:52 pm Yes I looked back at the data and all the Glaslyn birds were still there on 26th so 94 hadn't even set off. Was the date wrong or the number misread or duplicated on another bird? Guess we have to wait and see.
Tiger 09/14/10 07:46 pm Sometimes there are great moments in life. I guess that we just had one. Mystery not solved though.
