Thread subject: Sandhill Cranes
Name Date Message
Pamela 09/27/10 05:33 pm It is a fall treat that we are able to observe Sandhill Cranes in one of the cranberry bogs. Last year there were five, but I have only seen two feeding to date. They have arrived in early fall for the last 14 years on their way south.
A hawk was perusing the bog yesterday and flew directly over the two ignoring them completely, as they did him. What a glorious day to see all three.
Melanie 09/28/10 09:23 am I'm glad to hear the hawk decided discretion was the better part of valor ;-p
martyc35 09/28/10 06:04 pm It's nice to hear that they are surviving in the eastern flyway. I have seen them near Merced, CA, in our winters, and others are seen throughout the midwest and southwest. I have never been to Bosque del Apache to see them there, but I wish I could go.
