Nancy L 11/13/10 10:09 am I haven't been over to the Carmans River, but yesterday at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum where the Connetquot River flows through, part of the 'riverwalk' was closed as the river had overflowed its banks. In all the times I've been there, I never saw this before. The park benches that are normally at least 6 feet from the river - (bulkheading there) - were in the water by at least one foot. It was quite a sight. I know the weather reports had mentioned coastal flooding for the past 3 days, even though there was no rain.
martyc35 11/13/10 09:22 pm Is it unusually high tides, Nancy? I mean, do the experts think you are feeling the effects of all that ice melting up north, or is this a "normal" aberration?

Nancy L 11/14/10 11:41 am Well, I never stayed with the TV weather station enough to find out & nothing was in the newspaper. I was hoping someone here on the Island within our Message Board might know.
Celeste 11/14/10 07:35 pm We were heading to a restaurant in Bay Shore, (Long Island Restaurant week:-) and the street and parking lot were flooded. My husband heard on the radio that there were coastal flood warnings due to Hurricane Thomas . In all the years I have lived here I have never seen such flooding, without an active storm going on. Needless to say, no one could get anywhere near the restaurant.
Nancy L 11/15/10 11:30 am My brother, who lives across the street from the Great South Bay, had swans swimming over his street in front of his house.
