Melanie 01/23/11 12:57 pm The Coopers Hawk is still there and apparently is drawing quite a crowd every day. The WaPo is running a naming contest. I wouldn't want to have to be the one cleaning up all that whitewash.
cathleen 01/23/11 01:40 pm Probable more people there in the past week than in the past 10 years, especially in some of the catacombs. Should just paint everything white, including the holdings. :)
Melanie 01/24/11 11:16 am From today's WaPo (the hawk is still there):

Over the weekend, specialists from the Raptor Conservancy of Northern Virginia placed baited cages up in the Main Reading Room's dome, where the bird is circling, and strung a net on the bottom of the opening of the dome so that the hawk can't swoop down and disturb researchers.

From the naming contest, Jefferson seems to be the leading name. Scarlet O'Aira, Jane Air and Stephen Hawking are other non-political suggestions, and Shirley as in the Airplane reference.
