Last night there was a 14 bird rush hour pile-up at my apartment complex - two ospreys were making lazy circles in the sky, chatting away and minding their own business when from behind me I heard the crows going nuts. All of a sudden a sharp shinned hawk came zooming overhead with the murder of crows in hot pursuit. Next thing you know the ospreys found themselves surrounded by and caught in this kerfuffle. They quickly regrouped and soared up out of the way, no doubt shaking their heads and thinking about filing a noise complaint with the rental office.

Wow. You get all the big guys. Mine are mostly tiny. Last night, though, I saw a gull lying down in the street gutter, just as I was driving up the street. I figured to go back and see about a bird rescue when I returned, but it was gone again after only a few minutes. Hope it was okay.

Neither of my2 dictionaries has the word 'kerfuffle.' Can I use it in Scrabble??

But the online etymology dictionary has it, as early as 1930. LINK Approved for Scrabble, I'd say. The big words to learn for scrabble now, of course, are those that begin with Q and have no U after the Q. Points, points, points.
your resident linguist, marty, and yours for a pleasant life and lots of Qi.

I'd use it in Scrabble if I were lucky enough to have the letters! ;-)

Thanks, Marty.
I play Scrabble on-line (Facebook) with my daughter & my sister in Arizona. Each day I put in my word.
