Thread subject: Decorah chicks
Name Date Message
Shelley 04/10/11 03:43 pm If mama doesn't turn around, she is going to lose a curious chick who is fascinated at the moment with something over the far edge.

Yikes! I keep shouting but she's ignoring me...
martyc35 04/10/11 06:42 pm I looked in a little bit ago, and mom seemed to be sitting on all three. The temp there was an astounding 89 F. No wonder the little guy wanted more air.

clyde 04/11/11 01:56 am martyc35, an astounding 89 F in Decorah, IA "a little bit ago" (04/10/11 06:42 pm).???

Yes, that would be astounding. What did you really mean here?
clyde 04/11/11 02:06 am Looking back, it appears that they did indeed have a freakish spike in temperature there after all. Sorry Marty, and sorry for those poor chicks!
Melanie 04/11/11 02:25 pm If that's the same weather system we are in today in MD that would be right. Today will be in the mid-high 80's and the that system spawned tornadoes in IA yesterday. That's headed our way tonight.
martyc35 04/11/11 02:41 pm Forgive me, clyde, but I actually had doubts about what I was reading on the WU button they have posted by the cam. I knew that it was 89 degrees Fahrenheit, because I use WU all the time and all their temps are posted that way. Still, that seemed so high, and it was about 5:30 Iowa time, I guess. We get some unseasonal weather out here on the coast, and I remember a heat wave in Feb. in Sonoma County in the 80s that shocked me, but I was having trouble believing those poor chicks were stifling under mom there yesterday in that kind of heat. But they were, and I guess they are built to take it.
Duck, Melanie. Man, I wouldn't live back there fer love nor money.

Shelley 04/11/11 07:29 pm Speaking of weather, the wind there right now sounds ferocious! Last night and early this morning as well. It's a miracle they don't all get blown right out of the nest! I have to keep the sound on mute because it makes me crazy.
