Pam 04/29/11 03:24 pm Well that's pretty.
DaisyG 04/29/11 04:49 pm LOL is it 'the biggest Aspidistra in the world?' :)
Tiger 04/29/11 05:30 pm Yes but you would stay away too if you had a great horned owl in your nest which was the case when the ospreys returned. They built a nest elsewhere and stuck with it.

Now this is very sad. See Barbee Mill Ospreys

Still a cam but no ospreys.
martyc35 04/29/11 06:46 pm I remember when you were a frequent commenter at Barbee Mills, Tiger. I'm wondering if the fish supply is down. I watched a documentary on San Francisco Bay and all the problems over the years because of changes in the shoreline and habitats there. They mentioned that in El Nino and La Nina years, there aren't enough fish in the bay. Could be a problem like that with Puget Sound and Lake Union, too, I suppose.
I had forgotten about the owl invasion being on the KY nest. Thanks for reminding me.

Shelley 04/29/11 06:54 pm Holy cow! Did that actually grow there or was it brought in as decor?

LOL!
DaisyG 04/30/11 04:24 am It was sad about the ospreys being forced to find another nest but I was also quite looking forward to watching GHO chicks being raised here. Something I have never seen before. Very disappointing season all round.

Yes Tiger, also very sad about Barbee Mill. That used to be such a good cam.
martyc35 04/30/11 01:22 pm Daisy, I remember when I found out what an Aspidistra was when I decided to read all of George Orwell and discovered his novel, "Keep the Aspidistra Flying." Many years later, I actually had one as a house plant and discovered why they called it the Cast Iron Plant. A very British institution, that.

DaisyG 05/01/11 09:17 am Yes especially with the Victorians Marty. I have never kept one myself though I do love having plants around.
Tiger 05/01/11 09:42 am Reminds me of biggest aspidistra in the world
Nancy L 05/01/11 12:18 pm Thanks for that enjoyable clip, Tiger.
martyc35 05/01/11 01:18 pm Oh, my, I'm old enough to have heard that, but not quite old enough to remember it. Thanks, Tiger.
marty
DaisyG 05/01/11 01:50 pm I meant to put in that recording when I said it Tiger, then for some reason didn't. Thanks :)
