Melanie 05/19/11 09:16 am This morning brought a mockingbird who has mastered a very beautiful and intricate song, but hearing it start at 2:30 in the morning is not exactly my idea of the ideal time. Not only did he start at 2:30 right outside my bedroom window, but continued non-stop until 4:30 when the robins got up. Then things built to a crescendo when the new pileated woodpecker couple started sounding off at 6:30 when it was time to get up. Today there is no such thing as too much coffee.
Marie 05/19/11 01:50 pm lol Poor Mel!
What is the saying....'You'll need toothpics to keep your eye lids open today for work.

I remember a Pacific Wren, aka Winter Wren, that started singing across the street at midnight for two months one year...it started Jan 1st ...it would go on for quite a while, but it was a pleasant, bubbly call that lulled me off to sleep most nights. Not sure what was going on with this wren but the winter was mild one that year and it came from the area where low lights illuminated some low bushes outside a condo building.

Good luck tonight Mel...I hope this isn't an ongoing thing!
martyc35 05/19/11 01:57 pm Dare I say that I miss the mockingbirds up here where they don't come? I don't miss them at 3 in the morning or when they dive-bomb one's head just for walking out the door, though. I miss seeing them round up all the birds in the neighborhood including the hummers for a mass reaction to any cat that dares sit on top of a fence. That is community action par excellence. Sorry, Mel. And I hope he finds a better spot for spouting tonight.

Celeste 05/20/11 09:55 pm All I can say is "I'm smiling". I can "hear" the whole thing in my mind, cause we had a similar situation a few years ago. However, Melanie it's certainly better than noisy neighbors coming home late at night:-)
