Anne-UK1 07/09/11 05:33 pm News on Rothiemurchus, the young scottish osprey, from Roy Dennis. One of those "awww" moments :)

Back to natal site

07 July 2011

Rothiemurchus flew north from Loch Tummel to Loch Insh, and at midday was perched on or close to his natal nest on Rothiemurchus Estate.

Interesting route maps on Rothie's page
Celeste 07/09/11 06:02 pm Yes that definitely made me smile Anne!!!!
Tiger 07/09/11 07:25 pm Also interesting that he flew to Loch Garten. There was a persistent intruder on 7th July which on reflection may have been him.
DaisyG 07/09/11 07:43 pm Looking forward to Rothes intruding here too!
Anne 07/11/11 09:01 am That's really interesting and shows the value of fitting these transmitters.

We have just returned from the Shetland Isles, north of Scotland, where I was amazed to learn that they have up to 10 Osprey records every year. Most of the birds are thought to be Scandinavian youngsters, but ringed birds from the UK mainland turn up as well. Last year there was a colour ringed bird on the island of Unst for several weeks. Unst is on the latitude of 60 degrees 59' N so I hope this particular bird had the sense to go back south when it realised that there are no trees on Shetland.
