Thread subject: Now here's something to boggle the mind
Name Date Message
Melanie 08/30/11 12:17 pm On August 4th there was a lightening strike in Dismal Swamp which is near Norfolk VA. A wildfire ensued and soon engulfed over 6,000 acres. When the wind is from the south we can actually smell it here in Annapolis, 150 miles to the NNE. and even across the Bay on the Eastern Shore. While it has consumed trees, grasses etc, it is mainly being fed by peat and is giving off this awful, almost metallic smell that makes me think of a muffler and brake shop. I can't even imagine what it is like to live in the Norfolk area

At any rate, even though Irene dumped roughly 15" of rain on it, IT IS STILL BURNING! Granted much of it has been subdued but IT IS STILL BURNING!

The mind boggles
