Celeste 08/30/11 06:34 pm Watching this clever of "23 hours", I thought back to 1985 with Hurricane Gloria and how we saw photos in the newspaper, and of course there was TV and radio. We knew a Hurricane was coming and it was serious, but back then most households did not have cable/weather channel, just the 3 network news broadcasts. But now, every inch of a storm is everywhere. Facebook photos, internet news feeds, You Tube, etc. An article in Newsday mentioned that an 11 yr old boy asked his mother yesterday, (they have no electricity and he is having "game" withdrawal, computer, etc) "Is this how it was in the "old" days? " :-)
martyc35 08/30/11 07:45 pm Thanks, Mel. I will forward this to Bonnie, as she is so close to your town.

Trishrg 08/31/11 01:08 pm That's very cool!
For the most part, just business as usual.
Melanie 08/31/11 02:26 pm It's all very deceptive - we have parts of town that won't have power until the weekend. But then again, this is a huge party town. The mottos (take your pick) is We are a sailing town with a drinking problem or we are a drinking town with a sailing problem. Either way it takes a lot to slow 'em down.

On the other hand, one of my new young neighbors had such a rip snorter of a hurricane party that they just got an eviction notice!
martyc35 08/31/11 03:06 pm Bonnie's power in Bowie just came on around 9 p.m. last night. She had to throw out everything in her freezer, but a small sacrifice compared to what might have happened. Good way to get rid of noisy neighbors, Mel:-).

Shelley 08/31/11 05:42 pm During that huge blackout on the east coast back in what, 2003? I was without power for a few days. I threw out most of what was in my freezer too. Except the ice cream. I simply ate it for dinner, breakfast and lunch for about a day or so. ;-)
Melanie 08/31/11 08:11 pm Life is uncertain - eat dessert first!
