Melanie 08/31/11 02:48 pm This is from one of the newspapers down on the Outer Banks complete with a little slideshow. Looks like the pictures were all from the Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo area from what I remember. If anyone saw the movie Nights in Rodanthe, apparently that house (which was routinely endangered with any significant storm) was moved a year or so back. Good thing, too because where it used to stand a new inlet was finally punched through.

I was reading that they lost over 1,000 homes in NC and that the ferry slips down in Hatteras village were so filled in with sand that they had to literally dig them out so the ferries could bring in emergency supplies.
martyc35 08/31/11 03:08 pm It was indeed a more dangerous and costly storm than the mainstream media made out. New Yorkers upstate are infuriated at the NYC downplay. They, along with the Vermonter and Mainers, are still hurting.

Celeste 08/31/11 05:30 pm For a "Tropical" Storm/Category 1, it was devastating. NYC may have "dodged" the bullet they were expecting however, New Jersey, suburbs of NY didn't dodge all the bullets. My heart goes out to upstate NY, Vermont, and all the other States that are still suffering the effect of Irene.
Trishrg 08/31/11 05:55 pm I get a 404 not found with your link Mel.
Is it working for everyone else?
Melanie 08/31/11 08:16 pm Oops - my bad - I forgot that all-important first quotation marks. Damn fussy html. It's so literal! It works now.
bethohio 09/01/11 08:35 am Thanks for all the updates Mel...
Trishrg 09/02/11 03:27 pm Thanks for fixing the link to the slideshow!
That one HUGE house.... how sad.
But still, could have been SOOOO much worse!!!
