Enjoy!

Shelley 01/29/12 03:39 pm Wow, there are some great photos today!

As an aside, I read MM's citizenship diary. It's interesting to me that he is now allowed to keep his Canadian citizenship. My dad was American but came to Canada when his family emigrated here (my dad was only 12 years old at that time). He never gave up his American citizenship because, at that time, it had to be one or the other. As such, although he grew up, married and stayed in Canada for the rest of his life, he only decided to become a Canadian in 1976! In the late 1980s, I was living with an American and began to go through a process of applying for American papers. It was so convoluted, so insane (Canada always has recognized dual citizenship but even then, America didn't). Luckily (I say now), I broke up with the guy so never had to go through the hassle. Seems like it would be easier now, though.

I was also surprised at MM's mention of the religion. If someone at that ceremony who wasn't Christian, refused to pray, would they not be given their citizenship? I agree that bringing religion into a civic, and very multi-cultural ceremony, is completely inappropriate.

I'm glad he will now be dual!
Pam 01/29/12 05:44 pm Thanks Marty. Looks very dry there. Great variety of birds.
martyc35 01/29/12 06:57 pm Yes, Shelley. I learned something new, too, when MM was able to maintain dual citizenship. Some people commented on that in his diary this morning, and one person noted that the prayer ritual must have been requested by someone taking the oath, because it isn't standard procedure. Live and learn.
