Thread subject: 6 weeks from today

||I hope to see my first osprey on Long Island.

You are talking about March 10th?
According my notes, the first osprey I saw on the East End last year was "Mecox Mildred" flying with a fish in her talons over Montauk Highway on March 28th.
North Fork Bob arrived home last year on April 6th, but he did have to deal with nasty weather near the end of his trip. Fascinating storms on Rob's maps on the April 5th map:
They probably will arrive earlier in Nassau and western Suffolk, so we shall see. With this mild winter thus far, perhaps you are right to expect an earlier arrival this year.
Are there any active osprey nest cams on Long Island this year?
Let the season begin!

||The Hilton Head nest may be acting up soon (see links a few posts down).
This pine cone eating incident from last year continues to amuse me:

||No. 6 weeks from Feb. 4th is March 17th, which is St.Patrick's Day. That's when I usually start seeing osprey on L.I. I'll let you know when & where I see them in the Oakdale, Great River area.

||Right you are. A friend saw one on the East End around St. Patrick's Day last year also.
