Lori 04/22/12 05:43 pm Awwwwww! sweet story. I loved the pics. Thanks Marty :)
Shelley 04/22/12 08:35 pm Really great stuff here. And those cedar waxwings are really something, too! Thanks, Marty.

A few years ago at my school, we got an incubator and 9 duck eggs from a local farm. We incubated them, documented everything and they all hatched. It was a wonderful experience for the kids (and for us!) and we took photos every step of the way and made a little book. The ducklings were kind enough to hatch on a Monday and Tuesday, when we were able to spend much of the day watching and recording (rather than over the weekend when we would have missed the entire show!) :-)
Pam 04/23/12 05:10 pm Yes, lovely pics Marty. Unfortunately most of those little ducklings will not make it - that's just the way it is and I suppose we would be overrun with ducks if they did all live :-))
martyc35 04/23/12 06:34 pm I guess nature sets up an odds factor: lots of eggs for those who have to dive, swim and run about right after hatching, and two or three for those who stay in the nest longer, like our ospreys and eagles. I do love watching how the loons let their little ones ride on their backs. Stretching the odds?
