Thread subject: April Birding in Southern California
Name Date Message
Trishrg 05/01/12 09:53 am I had a wonderful month birding.

Finding birds that were always there, but I never saw before. You may have noticed, I've really got the birding "bug" over the past 2 years. I now bird every moment. Really.

I'm trying to nurse a bum foot currently, (chronic Plantar Fasciitis) and most of my birding was done in my own neighborhood, and a lot from my own backyard, looking up into the Red Gum Eucalyptus tree right across the street.

I have 6 new "life" birds in April.

Ash-throated Flycatcher, Western Tanager,

Summer Tanager, Nashville Warbler, Warbling Vireo, Chipping Sparrow.

Since Migration is in full swing right now, I'm hoping May will be a good month too. I'm going to Catalina in 2 weeks to tour with a biologist and look for BAEA's.

Enjoy. Click on slideshow.

vickinish 05/01/12 12:58 pm Fantastic as usual. Although you are only one county away you seem to get such great variety of birds.

I am currently watching a Black Phoebe and a juvenile in my yard. Perhaps the youngster is learning how to catch those bugs. That is about as exotic as it gets here in Redondo Beach.
Shelley 05/01/12 09:12 pm Great pics, Trish! Wow, what an amazing variety you see! I currently have a couple of chipping sparrows at my feeder the last week or so. A few summers ago I had one who apparently raised a cowbird. I saw her feeding the cowbird chick, which was about twice the size of mama Chippy!

That poor coot with the lure on its neck! Do you know if it ended up getting rid of it?
Trishrg 05/01/12 09:50 pm I don't know about the Coot. I haven't been back there since. I'm going on Thursday this week though. I'm on Staycation this week 8-)

Amazing those little Chipping sparrows made it from my house to yours already!!!
martyc35 05/01/12 10:40 pm Those are fantastic, Trish. I will share them on Sunday, of course. Sorry about your foot, but at least it got you looking in new spots. Thanks!

Celeste 05/03/12 05:50 am As always Trish love your Birding Photos! Thank you!
Pam 05/04/12 06:02 am Your "life" list just keeps on growing Trish. Always enjoy your photographs, thank you.
