Thread subject: Pohtiolampi - where are the Ospreys?
Name Date Message
Pam 05/04/12 05:58 am Where have they gone - that was the question I was asking myself. After seeing them dive every 5 - 10 minutes when the cam was first switched on it suddenly seemed to go to no dives. I checked out their newspage today and found the answer:
Quote:
Spring flood at the osprey fish-pond
May 1st 2012
We have the worst spring flooding since spring 1995 at Pohtiolampi. The flood began rapidly on April 27 and has got worse all the time. The surface of the upstream lake (Vesijärvi) is expected to increase further to about one inch and the level of the downstream lake (Längelmävesi) will go up further to about 12 cm. Flood is expected to fall until the middle of May. In the Osprey pond Ospreyâs diving does not succeed at all. Fishes have dropped close to the bottom and the depth of water is too much for ospreys. Birds are looking a while at the pond area and then they fly away.

We are obligated to cancel the use of bird hides, at least until May 15.

The Osprey Foundation regrets the Force Majeure situation. We make our best to remedy the damage incurred.
Anne-UK1 05/04/12 09:11 am Oh, not good. I hope there are other fishing spots that aren't affected.

I wish this weather would sort itself out!
