Thread subject: Sad News About A Legendary Osprey
Name Date Message
Tiger 09/17/12 05:27 am Yesterday was a very sad day as it seems that one of the most famous ospreys was discovered to have died.

He was 9 (98) who has been around Rutland during the last 14 years.

He was undergoing a dramatic migration when seems to have died for some reason.
See Sad News

He lived a colourful life and there are many stories to tell about him.
Trishrg 09/17/12 08:30 am Look at the bright side. The transmitter may have fallen off! I'll go for the bright side possibility for now!
Anne-UK1 09/17/12 09:20 am I'm hoping it's just the transmitter too. I've tried to find out what wildlife lives in the Atlas Mountains, without success. Would there be wild cats of any sort up there? Rutland say it's remote, so not likely to be human intervention.

A real mystery, that may not be solved until the spring. Fingers crossed he returns safe and sound, just without his back pack.
DaisyG 09/17/12 12:25 pm Very sad indeed. Sounds to me like he just died for whatever reason.
Another setback for 5N.
Celeste 09/17/12 02:31 pm It is extremely puzzling! Sad news indeed.
Tiger 09/17/12 07:31 pm Yes but come next March we will find out for definite in any case.
Tiger 09/18/12 04:42 am The problem with believing that the trackers have fallen off is that people begin to ask why they fall off so easily?

Real truth is that when we get a failure like 9 (98) the osprey is usually dead. In those cases where they have been able to go to the spot as they have in many cases they have found the body of the bird.

Lucky 13 from Bassenthwaite is missing in Spain near Valencia and I think that people are searching for him right now.
