Shelley 09/30/12 08:13 pm Don't have the time at the moment to read it thoroughly, so I just skimmed (I'll get to it later in the week). I just wanted to mention a really interesting book I read just a couple of months ago by the famous Dr. Oliver Sacks (who usually writes about cases in his field of neurology). The book was a small volume, called Oaxaca Journal and was a journal he kept while on a bus trip through that very area of Mexico some years ago, as part of a group of folks interested in ferns. Among the group, though, were birders, botonists, and others. I didn't write a review of the book myself, but here is one I found that is rather good:
Oaxaca Journal

Your Kos pals reading today's diary might be interested in this one. I love Sacks's works, by the way, and have read several others. This is a departure for him.

Thanks, Marty
Celeste 10/01/12 09:00 am Interesting read. To be honest I wasn't aware of a tropical dry forest. The description of the trees and the photos are amazing. Do see and agree that this dry forest is something important that needs to be saved.
