Nancy L 02/27/13 12:33 pm Does anyone know about the huge osprey nest on a pole on the n/w corner of Rt. 4 (5?) & i think it's called Riverhead-Hampton Bays Rd? The road that passes the 'Big Duck. 'It's the road that goes into the lower traffic circle in Riverhead. Anyway, I just noticed it for the first time & it does look very big.
zorro89 02/27/13 04:23 pm Sorry Nancy I'm not familiar w/that area. I used to kayak on the Peconic River out of Riverhead but haven't in 10 yrs or so. Think the road that goes into the tfc. circle is rt 105 or Flanders Rd. I'm out of Mt. Sinai and I still putz around the Carmans.
zorro89 02/27/13 04:29 pm Dir to Big Duck - LIE Exit 71, turn right at CR-94east/Edwards Ave/Rt-24east for 4.3 mi. At the traffic circle take 3rd exit onto Flanders Rd/Rt-24east 2.4 miles - Duck is on the left. Now if I only knew what tree to look for lol. terryo
mcon 02/27/13 07:22 pm yes there is a nest on the northwest corner where Flanders Rd. (Rt.24) and Rt. 105 meet. The nest is active and has been there for several years.
