Thread subject: Snow in England??
Name Date Message
Nancy L 03/13/13 08:19 pm That's what I read. How is it near you?
Pam 03/14/13 06:17 am Nancy - we have a real mixture of weather right now. Snow showers and sunshine and cold north-easterly winds from Scandinavia and Russia. No depth to the snow compared with North America - usually just a few inches but it seems to throw the country into chaos nevertheless :-)) Today it is lovely, blue skies and warmer around 5 degs C.
The Rutland Water webcam is back online from 10am to 4pm GMT now but don't ask me what that white thing is on the nest - your guess is as good as mine.
Nancy L 03/14/13 01:50 pm Thanks, Pam. I guess the continent is getting it worse. You are probably more like we are on the south shore of Long Island. The middle & north usually get more than we do.
I'll have to check out Rutland. Thanks forthe reminder.
Anne-UK1 03/17/13 05:01 pm I looked at the Rutland site the other day and I believe they said the white thing was a bucket to stop the Egyptian geese setting up home before our ospreys arrive back.

While I'm here, just a note to say I've not been around too much recently due to various family things that have needed my input. And now I have a more serious issue which will be taking up a lot of my time as my Mum is currently in hospital having been knocked down by a car on Thursday evening. She's doing remarkably well so far, but will be out of action for quite a few weeks.

So please don't think I'm ignoring you all, or have won the lottery and run off to spend all my money ;)

I will be looking in to keep up with happenings, but may not have the time or perhaps the mental energy to join in the conversations. What I will be very grateful for is any snippets of news about ospreys near and far - I know I can rely on this message board for that.

Thanks all. Here's to a successful year on all our nests :)
Melanie 03/17/13 05:18 pm My sister arrive in Paris to snow. Not quite the 8" that she returned to in Nebraska, but still...
martyc35 03/18/13 07:40 pm My sympathies on your mom's accident, and I wish her a speedy recovery. We'll let you know about osprey sightings, and hang in there, please.

Pam 03/20/13 08:24 pm Anne - sorry to hear about all your troubles and hope things improve for you and your family soon.
Shelley 03/20/13 09:10 pm Wishing your mum a speedy recovery, Anne. Hang in there!
Celeste 03/21/13 08:46 am Only thinking of you this morning Anne! So sorry! Hope all will be well soon. We will certainly not forget you! After all, WE are the featherheads!!:-)
Anne-UK1 03/21/13 06:36 pm Thanks all. I appreciate your kind wishes. I'm very pleased to say that Mum is doing pretty well so far. She had her third op today - hopefully the last she'll need for a few months.

The doctors are amazed at how well she's doing. I am just so thankful for their skill - they have done everything they possibly could to give her the best chance of recovery.

It's going to be a long old haul, but so far so good. I'm feeling a lot more cheerful than I was a week ago, and keeping track of our returning birds will help keep my spirits up over the next few weeks I'm sure :)
