Thread subject: Ospreys on the Carmans/DPOF Nest
Name Date Message
terryo 04/21/13 12:50 pm Hello all, just got back from taking pixs along various areas of the Carmans. Still to cold for me to break out the kayak and it was very breezy along the water. I first went to DPOF nest area near the boathouse and was greeted by five ospreys flying around singing their feathers off. One bird on the nest for a few minutes but flew off and went to one of the dead tree limbs near the nest. Saw 7 or 8 ospreys in total. I was able to photo one of the birds diving into the water and catching a fish which was exciting. I think I have the order of the pixs backwards so keep that in mind. The new nest that was put up near the new Wertheim Headquarters building is still vacant. One man I met said he's only seen 2 birds alight on the nest for a couple of minutes then fly off again. It was great hearing ospreys chirping away up and down the Carmans. Hope the river feeds many babies this season. Pixs below:

Kathy 04/21/13 02:39 pm Thanks Terry!
Anne-UK1 04/21/13 04:19 pm Thanks Terry. What a great day out for you! So many ospreys about - I wonder if any of them were hatched on the DPOF nest.

A shame about that new cam. Maybe next year they should try moving it to another nest in the vicinity ;)
Nancy L 04/22/13 12:09 pm I have word that the old, empty 'wagon-wheel' platform has a nest on it. Well have to check that out.
zorro89 04/22/13 04:05 pm funny u say that Nancy. I was going to check it on Sunday but figured after all these years why bother....go figure! aka terryo
Pam 04/23/13 05:44 pm How lovely to see so many Ospreys. I loved the silhouette type of picture with the "two beauties".
