Thread subject: A first for me on the EAST END Osprey Front!
Name Date Message
Celeste 07/03/13 05:27 pm Today we decided to drive East again and as we were driving through wine country to Greenport, a first for me. Up close and personal 2 very large osprey flew right in front of us as we were driving. They were so low that I thought they might fly into the car. It appeared that the first osprey was an intruder and the second osprey was right behind the first getting him out of his territory. I never had to lift my head to look up as they were right in front of me eye level, and all I can say is to see them at a distance flying is one thing, but eye level and very close to the windshield was unbelievable. I knew from banding that their wings were huge, but in flight is a completely different story.
There are many osprey to be seen on the East End, and driving home I thought I was seeing an egret in flight until I realized it was an osprey carrying a fish that was so long that my husband thought it had to be a fluke, or a striped bass.

That's my Long Island osprey news for today!!!

Happy 4th Everyone..Stay safe!!!!!
Shelley 07/03/13 06:22 pm Wow! Good that you didn't drive off the road!!
Nancy L 07/04/13 01:16 pm Wonderful news! It's always a nice day out on the 'north fork.'

Pam 07/04/13 07:23 pm What an experience for you Celeste ! Have you converted Frank into an Osprey fan yet then?
Anne-UK1 07/09/13 05:30 pm That must have been amazing. And as Shelley says, well done for staying on the road!
