Thread subject: Very Sad News
Name Date Message
Tiger 01/07/14 03:26 pm Some hours ago the very sad news came through that Caledonia the osprey hatched at Loch Garten in 2012 is dead.

See ..I can hardly believe it myself.....
Trishrg 01/08/14 08:48 am So sorry. What a shame... ready to migrate north and now this? Darn....
Nancy L 01/08/14 12:33 pm So sorry to hear this news.
Anne-UK 01/10/14 12:03 pm Really sad news. So close to making her first trip back home - LG really do seem fated.
Tiger 01/11/14 02:30 am Here is a Loch Garten Chick from 2000 which has returned. It has not been mentioned by Loch Garten

See Green 2E
DaisyG 01/11/14 09:03 am Yes, surely Green 2E should have been big news on LG blog.
Anne-UK 01/11/14 05:53 pm It should. Who would the parents have been?

Good to know at least one chick from that nest made it past the first couple of years. Of course there may be others we don't know about, but in terms of satellite tracked youngsters it's been pretty disastrous :(

Tiger 01/12/14 03:36 pm Green 2E's parents would have been Ollie and Olive. I can find you a picture of him/her in the nest.
Tiger 01/12/14 03:41 pm You will find pictures of the toward the bottom of this page. See Loch Garten Nest 28 June 2000
Anne-UK 01/13/14 04:05 am Thanks Tiger. That page makes interesting reading. Clearly it was very early days and it shows how things have moved on hugely since. Quite amazing in such a short space of time.
Tiger 01/15/14 02:27 am Now pictures of the body of Caledonia have emerged

See Adios Caledonia
Tiger 01/15/14 02:51 am Also posted at Ospreys
Nancy L 01/15/14 11:09 am Thanks for that news, Tiger.
Anne-UK 01/15/14 05:45 pm Those photos are hard to look at.
Tiger 01/16/14 08:39 am Yes but they do show that Caledonia was in fine condition before she met her end. It shows that trackers do not harm ospreys in any way.
