Shelley 04/15/14 05:16 pm I think there is one egg at this nest. The osprey is sitting all the time. I saw her almost get up earlier and it looked like she was shuffling stuff under her but I wasn't able to actually see an egg. Just the body language suggests that that's what's happening; very much brooding behaviour. We ought to be able to see soon, though. She can't sit there forever!

The side notes on this nest tell us that the female osprey from the Hellgate nest arrived back from migration 2 days ago but the nest still looks forlorn and if she's back, she sure isn't doing any housekeeping there. I do hope that she will; I loved watching Hellgate.

And these 2 have sound, unlike Woods Hole (which is still fun to watch!)
Shelley 04/16/14 09:19 am Yep, definitely an egg! I just saw a changeover of the 2 adults. One small egg clearly visible.

And another season begins... :-)
Shelley 04/16/14 09:29 am At Hellgate, the female is sitting on the nest, just looking all around. She seems relaxed, in no hurry, quite comfortable. However, the nest is still a mess, in total disarray. If she plans on staying, she is going to need to get moving, tidying up, and creating a home. It looks like a fixer-upper, after the winter.

Woo-hoo! I just noticed that the female (Iris) appeared to be mantling. Suddenly, the male arrived, they mated and now both are still on the nest. This is a great sign that they are home at last. Better late than never!
Anne-UK 04/16/14 10:34 am I haven't looked in yet, but that is good news Shelley. It seems a funny year to me - some ospreys arriving back a lot earlier than I'd expected, while it seems there are still a lot only just reaching our shores. Quite a split, for some reason.

As for housework - I'm with Iris. Why do today what you can leave until tomorrow :)
Shelley 04/16/14 10:54 am Anne, you're funny! But I wholeheartedly agree!

That said, apparently, Iris isn't listening to us. She's fussing with the sticks just now:
