Celeste 07/08/15 04:59 am I was checking the Long Island Osprey cam, and came upon this video on the site. It's made by young filmmakers, and the beginning is typical of osprey videos, but right after a brief summary of osprey, they discuss DDT and osprey. Perhaps you have seen it, but I had no idea how DDT came to be,(during WWII). What was new to me were vintage clips from those War year and after, and it's shocking to see how DDT was part of everyone's life, inside and outside the home, on our bodies, etc.!) Here's the link....

Anne-UK 07/08/15 04:01 pm Thanks Celeste. A truly fascinating film. It's frightening now to see those clips of people being absolutely showered in the stuff. But I'm sure when I was a child it was the first thing everyone reached for and not a second thought was given to the effect it would surely have on all living things, not just those it was intended to eradicate.
We think we're so clever, but so often we don't even look for, never mind see, the bigger picture.
I think there is more awareness in the world nowadays of how precarious the balance of nature is and how easily it can be tipped. Whether that awareness is enough remains to be seen.
Nancy L 07/08/15 04:50 pm Thanks, Celeste.
Trishrg 07/08/15 08:22 pm Makes me wonder about your last post about the abandoned nests. What are they trying to tell us now? Will we listen this time?
martyc35 07/09/15 04:56 pm I was astounded to discover, once, that Dove Beauty Bars contained measurable amounts of dioxin, a known poison. But I was even more astounded to realize that no one cared.
